From the Globe and Mail’s Paul Waldie:

Under Reinsdorf’s offer the NHL would receive $38.5 million and a major Coyotes’ creditor, MSD Capital, would get $79.7 million. Current majority owner Jerry Moyes would get nothing.

So the NHL would rather sell the team for 64 Million less just to make sure Balsille doesn’t get the team.

I really don’t know who’s ego is larger, Balsillies or Bettmans.

Bettman will bleed the NHL dry before he has to say he failed…..  What a joke of an offer.  If a judge allows this to go through during this bankruptcy ordeal,  you have to wonder what he purchased with his bribe money….

While I would not be shocked if this offer goes through it would be just one more thing to add to my list of why Bettman has just got to go. Turn down the chance to make all the owners happy by giving them a cut of an expansion fee just to keep a club that has been hemorrhaging for years in a market that clearly can not support it, all in the hopes of getting a lucrative TV deal with NBC? How Bettman has been able to keep all the owners on board with his plan is beyond me. The guy must be a magician/hypnotist/witch-doctor…

He, Bettman, wants to be sheriff really bad and he is sheriff really bad.

Watta joke of an offer.

I love hockey,  but the NHL sure makes it hard to do.  If someone offered me 150k for my house and I said no, if only because I didn’t like him, then sold it for 85k to a buddy.  I would be an a-hole with no business sense…

What if you had established rules in your neighbourhood and he was offering you 150K on the condition that you allow him to break as many rules as he wanted, just because he think he’ should be able to?

What if you were in need of $150 thousand, and $85 thousand wasn’t enough?

Beggars can’t be choosers.

The NHL needs the money - Phoenix isn’t the only franchise in trouble.  At least Balsillie has the virtue of actually having money instead of duping the league into thinking he has the money via fraud.  At some point they are going to have to be less selective in who they let into their ownership club because they won’t have many options and will need the money.

Most of the saps on here think buying the Phoenix Coyotes means you can put the team where ever you want because you got the cash. If you want to buy a team in Toronto you need to shell out the money it cost to invade the market. Can’t try and steal a team on the cheap and cry about how unfair it is. Good for Gary to step up to protect the cities in the league. Not let some gangster like Balsillie force his way in.
