Explain to me why people who should know better continue to twist themselves out of shape with wild celebrations whenever their home teams record wins during the pre-season.

Win or lose, does anybody really think they’re a reflection of what to expect from the regular season?

When only roughly one-half the regulars are dressed and when 30 minutes are the most their fans see of their No. 1 goaltenders in nearly all of the games, can you think of even one reason why this money grab should be taken seriously?

How about games when No. 1 goaltenders watch from the stands? Or when teams are asked to play five games in five nights, as the Montreal Canadiens were? Even the Florida Panthers had an easier schedule with five games in six nights - but all were on the road against a Canadian opponent.
