Renew My Faith

During my appearance on The Crazy Canucks podcast last night, I brought up the name Ron Duguay, thinking it would start some conversation.
Well, it went over like a lead balloon, pure silence- Then I remembered the age of the folks involved in the podcast.  No one knew who Duguay was, except one person stated he might have made a guest appearance o 90210!
Someone has to have a Duguay story, even a Carol Alt story will do… help, I am feeling older by the minute.

Duguay was a pin up boy in those old days, woman loved him and his flowing hair.

My aunt was a huge Ron Duguay fan back in the 1980s.

I got his autograph in 1989, when he was with LA. I also at one point owned that 45 (now there’s something to make me feel old!) with Rangers players singing on one side, and the Kings Triple Crown Line on the other. I believe Duguay was one of the participants in that...I think it was called the “Hockey Sock Rock.” No idea where the record is now—I can’t believe I lost/gave away such a wonderful piece of hockey kitsch!

But Paul! Ron Duguay DID guest star on Beverly Hills 90210!

Check it out, and much more, at your friendly neighborhood hockey history blog!

P.S. - Alt was with Ronnie Greschner. Duguay had to settle for Kim Alexis!

The name Ron Duguay instantly brings to mind the image of him wearing a coat with a huge fur collar during his Wings days. With his flowing curls, it was absolutely hilarious...even back in the day. LOL!

More recently, I recall seeing a story about him saying that he still shows up at some Rangers games and that he and Kim Alexis do lots of charity work. It seems like it may have been on some Rangers site.

I have a old VHS video Super Dooper Hockey Bloopers that has “Hockey Sock Rock” with players daning to the music.
I also remember when Duguay was traded to the Pens.  I thought Mario had found his “go to” right winger. Sadly that was not the case.
Image over reality.

MSG Network had a pre-game feature on Duguay before a Rangers game within the past week or so. Unfortunately, their web site has no search feature, so I can’t even tell if they have it online.

I am a big fan of the Rangers going back to about 1980.  I remember Ron Duguay very well.  Used to go to Ranger practices in Rye, NY.  When they had “open” practice, some of the guys would sign autographs & take pix with fans in the parking lot.  Duguay always waited until the security guys insisted that “everybody” was gone.  Then he would run out the door with an ankle length fur coat on and just scoot into a waiting car - not stopping at all.
