Vanderbeek has hired investment bank Moag & Co. in Baltimore to oversee the sale of the National Hockey League club, and has sent out letters to prospective buyers soliciting interest, said the person, who has seen the letter and requested anonymity because the team hasn’t given him permission to discuss it.

In an e-mail, Vanderbeek said he was traveling and wouldn’t be available to talk until later today

added 3:20pm, via Craig Custance tweet,

Have been told now by multiple sources that the Devils ownership sale story isn’t accurate.

added 5:35pm, from Tom Gulitti of Fire & Ice,

“As Managing Member of the New Jersey Devils, it is not my desire to sell the team,” Vanderbeek said in the statement. ” My partner, Brick City, and I have different visions for the franchise. While Brick City has a right, under our partnership agreement, to explore a sale and Moag and Co. has been retained to assist in these effort, I anticipate maintaining a controlling interest.”

Phoenix, Buffalo, NJ, isn’t Atlanta in a ownership mess too?

Great job, Gary.

I can see it, Vanderbeek says, ” We must get Kovulchuck no matter the cost!” in his mind going “Then I can sell, sell, sell!”

Good news for Zach Parise to hit the open market. Arnott may as well go somewhere else now too.

Way to go Gary, all these owners must feel really confident about your leadership.  You can add St. Louis, Dallas, and Colorado to the “For Sale” clubs.  Now you’re gonna figure you’ve got to hit a home run with the next CBA.  I’ll bet on Fehr,  Go back to basketball.

I feel bad for Lou…accoridng to speculation he basically got railroaded into the Kovalchuk deal by Vanderbeek. Now the club is practically maxed out, will likely lose one of the best young stars to come out of the organization in Zach Parise.

They had to fire the coach, bring an old one out of retirement for a third tour of duty. Now Vanderbeek wants to sell the team.

Jeebus, they’re both fairly credible sources.  Which one’s right?

Great job, Gary.

Billionaires get sick of their toys, sometimes. The only one of those things that’s Bettman’s fault is Phoenix.

Absolutely.  These guys get carried away with hockey.  Maybe their kid or kids get interested then the novelty wears off.  These kind of owners exist in all sports.  His meddling caused Lou to make a bad move.  Hopefully the new owners have more sense.  At least hockey doesn’t have the Wilpons.
