from TSN,
Sources tell TSN the New York Rangers and Calgary Flames are expected to announce a trade tonight that will send Calgary centre, Olli Jokinen to the Rangers in exchange for Ales Kotalik and either Chris Higgins or rookie defenceman, Matt Gilroy.

Gilroy wont be involved.
added 10:27pm,, TSN has updated the same link as above,

Trade call is unlikely tonight. Sounds like the Flames are holding this deal up. Working on why.
added 8:10am on 02/01/10, via Elliotte Friedman’s Twitter,
Got a text overnight saying the Flames/Rangers deal had fallen apart. We’ll see if the two teams might try again today.

What does Calgary get out of this? They lose two expiring contracts in order to get an albatross and another expiring contract, and they gave up the only (marginally) productive player. I don’t blame Calgary for holding it up.

This is a stupid trade for calgary. I don’t know why in the world any team would want kotalik for 3 million for 2 more years. Kotalik is on a ridiculous contract that he is nowhere near living up to. Friggin -18, so bad, and hes not even scoring. Higgins has been marginal at best, so I fail to see how this helps the flames. Jokinen is having a bad year, yah, but hes way better then these 2 scrubs. Prust is a great role player to have, I don’t see why they would want to get rid of him etiher. The flames already adjusted their scoring woes by getting hagman, and co. already. This is just a stupid trade on all levels.

I agree bad trade for Calgary, Olie is underachieving and Dion Phaneuf (now a leaf!!) are not performing as expected so they dish them off for next to nothing. Bad play by Calgary. As a Leafs fan I am very happy about getting Phaneuf though!

not sure if this is a good trade. It does move Dubinsky to the wing full time though, which may help the Rangers come playoff time. We will see.
