Report- Guerin & Tkachuk Told They Will Be Traded

via Hadley On Sports,
Both Bill Guerin and Keith Tkachuk have been informed they will in fact be dealt in the very near future.
I write because many readers are under the impression that there is a chance that one or both could be retained.
That certainly isn’t the case… management has told both unequivocally they will be dealt.

I would be surprised if the Blues bring in more defensemen considering their depth at that position, unless they make a number of deals involving players already on their backend. It is a virtual certainty that they are looking for young forwards.

I doubt Carolina will give up a first rounder at this point being 8th.. if they had a solid lock to make the playoffs, it would be done.
I suspect an older player, for a much cheaper price. 2nd or 3rd rounder, plus a prospect. Maybe 2nd rounder this year, and a 3rd rounder next + a prospect.

The Blues want high picks and near NHL ready forward prospects (confirmed by JD).
As for Carolina, they are in a battle for one of the final spots. I’d wonder if either guy would want to waive their NTC to be on the bubble.

If I was a betting man I would put my money on one of these 2 players to be heading to Pittsburgh. Who has more to offer in terms of young players and draft picks than the Penguins? Nobody. Plus the team is going to make the playoffs if they do not spontaneously combust during the last 20 games or so. Look for the Pens to add one of these 2 guys and then a solid defenseman.

I think that Geurin will be a Red Wing within a few days, just have a feeling about that.
Tkachuk would be a good fit for Carolina, but giving up a first rounder for him seems unlikely to happen.

From the newsandobserver:
“At this time of year, you usually pay a premium, but this is an extreme premium,” Rutherford said. “At this point in time, we really aren’t close to anything. Certainly we’ll make a deal if it makes sense for us, but it doesn’t at this point in time.”
Unless the first rounder asking price is removed, Carolina won’t be bidding for these players.

Gotta think one is on there way to Carolina. Especially with Cole going down for possibly a month. Babchuk is probably going to be packaged and sent to St. Louis.
