Report- Heatley May Want Out

from E.J. Hradek of ESPN,

Is Senators winger Dany Heatley seeking his ticket out of Ottawa? Sources tell me that is the case.

Ottawa GM Bryan Murray, who, according to those sources, has been notified of Heatley’s desire for a change of scenery, is mulling his options. Murray could retool the Senators’ roster by moving Heatley.

The Sens should work out a deal for thorton.  Change of venue might help them both out

Actually I heard EJ but was away from the computer for about five minutes, then found it online.

But I did see your comment.

I am sure Senshobo will chime in too.

Man this sucks. Heatley is not the person that needs to go in Ottawa.

@nick: but then they’re stuck with two top-line centres and not enough help.

Is anybody really surprised by this report?

Heatley and Clouston didn’t get on from Day One, and when Clouston called Dany out, much fuss was made to quiet the perception of a conflict.

Dany may be expensive, but a team that needs a pure scorer and isn’t worried about his defensive downside may be interested.

Calgary and Vancouver might be destinations, and that trade might involve a defenseman.

Wow.  Aside from luongo, and Ovechkin, heatley is my favorite player.  Although i would salivate at the chance at heatley, what in the world would it take to land a guy like him, aside moving luongo?  NO way in hell, is hodgson moving, so that is not even in the discussion.  Do we move luongo and bank on Schnieder? I don’t know.

Perhaps I view the situation differently than I should- but didn’t Ottawa kinda bail Heatley out after the wreck thing in Atlanta?  Now he’s requesting to be shipped out of Ottawa, too?

I don’t know much about the guy, other than that he’s an absolute killer for Canada in World Championships, but isn’t this kind’ve, uh, ungrateful?  Do I have the wrong spin on the situation?

I can’t help but picture this Ottawa team with Hossa and Chara long-term, instead of Heatley and Redden (up ‘till this year).  Would’ve looked a lot different.

Gotta think who is in the market for a pure goal scorer?  Hm, about 30 teams.  But if you add in current rosters and salary cap numbers along with the package going the other way I think you end up with a much smaller number of teams.  VAN & CAL for sure meet that criteria, but so do LA and TOR, not to mention SJ or TB if the return was Thornton or Lecavalier (obviously more would have to go with Heater to bring in this big names).

Will be interesting to see who is willing and/or able to make this move for a one-dimensional 7.5 million dollar player.  Mind you I think in a different setting Heatley would not be nearly as one-dimensional as he is in Ottawa.

I don’t think he owes Ottawa very much, really.  Sure, they got him out of a difficult situation emotionally, but the Senators didn’t do him a favor - they traded away Hossa (who I don’t think even had the ink dry on his new contract yet), and it wasn’t as though he was damaged goods.  It was still clear that he could play very well.

I would think he owed Ottawa a little more if he was washed up and out of chances, so it was clear they were doing him a favor more than anything else.  They traded away an expensive player for a less expensive player, both very talented, so it was clearly a way to make their team better.
