Report: Kevin Dineen to be Panthers New Head Coach

From Bob McKenzie of TSN, via Twitter:

FLA Panthers say they have “major announcement” scheduled for tomorrow. Won’t be surprised if it’s to name Kevin Dineen as new head coach.

Numerous other pundits chiming in agree with McKenzie’s assessment. Press conference is expected at 3pm ET on Wednesday.

Update 5:04pm ET: From TSN:

The Florida Panthers have scheduled a Wednesday press conference where they will announce former NHLer Kevin Dineen as their next head coach.

Dineen, 47, has spent the past six years as the head coach of the Portland Pirates of the American Hockey League, and won the Louis A.R. Pieri Memorial Award as the AHL’s outstanding coach, as voted by members of the media, in his first season behind the bench.

FFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUU….....

Curse you, Jim Rutherford!  Curse you and your continued cold-shouldering of the man who singlehandedly kept the Hurricanes together in Greensboro!  *shakes fist*

Good for KD.  Yes, he should be in Raleigh, but this is great for him.

He’s forever linked to the Hurricanes, not just as a former captain, but as the player who scored the last Whalers goal and the first Hurricanes goal.
