from Michael Russo of the Star-Tribune,
Todd Richards will be the second coach in Wild history, multiple sources around the NHL tell the Star Tribune.
Sources say an official offer has been made, negotiations are underway and a news conference could come as early as Tuesday to introduce Richards, an assistant with the San Jose Sharks.

Shoot, apparently if you can be an ass. coach with a team of first-round chokers and get a job, just like that.
Where do I sign up to be an NHL coach? It seems easy, experience seems to be meaningless, and there don’t seem to be any requirements or prereq’s. SIGN ME UP!!
I have nothing against the guy, but my god, Richards was just playing defense in Grand Rapids a couple of years ago. What does he know about being an NHL head coach?

Didn’t they interview Dave Tippett? I thought they were going to. I think he might have been a good fit.
On the plus side, San Jose has an opening for an assistant coach now, so maybe they will hire Brad MacCrimmon from Detroit to fill their hole.

Todd Richards did a more than decent job for the Penguins AHL affiliate, so that “pedigree” might have helped somewhat in lieu of recent franchise success. Had his replacement, Dan Bylsma, not turned this season around, Todd Richards would likely have been first in line for the Pittsburgh Penguins head coaching job. However, things turned out differently.
