from Adrian Dater of the Denver Post,
Former Avs star Patrick Roy has been offered Granato’s job and is mulling over the offer, according to multiple NHL sources who are close to Roy. The Hall of Fame goalie could not be reached for comment Sunday night, and the Avs had no comment about the possibility of Roy replacing Granato. Granato has not yet been told he’s out of a job.
added 2:15pm, from TSN,
Hall of Fame goaltender Patrick Roy has denied a report in the Denver Post that stated he had been offered the head coaching job of the Colorado Avalanche.
“I never received an offer . . . but anyway, I’m not commenting,” Roy told French language website SRC.ca.

Good lord, that would be a disaster…and I would love every minute of it.

I have no great love for Granato - but how lousy is it to know that someone is interviewing for your job before it’s actually open? That really stinks.

They’re really clinging to the past. Are they going to raise the wrecked body of Adam Deadmarsh next?

Granato’s lost it before, though I don’t recall if it went down like this.

I think the last time they actually fired him before they looked for a replacement. This way is just cheap.

I gotta say, it’s nice to see that the Avs front office is a clueless and classless as it’s always been.
What, were there no barstools around to clock Granato in the crotch with?
Jesus Christ, Lacroix.

No doubt, Baroque. Though he may just be demoted to assistant coach. That was his job before he became head coach the second time.

Replace “Murray” with “Lacroix” and the probability of barstool to crotch would dramatically increase. It would of course be Granato’s fault since he was admiring his wreck of a team.

I’m setting the over/under on number of games before he’s suspended at 30. What are you taking?

I’d have to see the schedule, and when they come to Detroit for the first time—assuming they’d paint the visitor’s locker room for old time’s sake.

Suspended? That’s an easy bet. No more than 30 games before he gets at least one.
I want to see the line on how soon it is before a) one of his current goalies either tries to kill Roy or kill himself and b) how soon before that toweringly ego-maniacal jackass thinks he ought to try and play.

This is nuts. I feel like the Avalanche have turned into some horrible has-been Celeb-reality show, and each season’s “crazier than the previous one!”
Why not try to ice a good team instead of wasting your time and money on trying to get those “old heroes” back into the fold.

This could only be better if they hired the DC too.

One of the innovations Roy is planning to introduce if he gets the job is t make the 23rd man on the team an “enforcer” goalie. He’ll get ice time in the final two minutes of a blowout (Roy doesn’t care if they’re up or down at the time) with the sole responsibility of racing down and pummeling the opposing goalie before time runs out. Rumor has it both Ray Emery and Roy’s son have already applied for the job.

What the Chief said. This would truly be like Christmas in July.

So Roy commented that he wasn’t commenting after he commented? Yup, I sure hope they get him.
