via WGR 550,
WGR 550 has learned that the Sabres have signed veteran defenseman Teppo Numminen to a contract today. Numminen missed all but one game last season with a heart ailment. The 40-year old underwent successful heart surgery in September of 2007. Terms of the deal were not given.
Update 3:35pm ET: From the Buffalo Sabres, Numminen’s deal has been confirmed --
Buffalo Sabres GM Darcy Regier announced today the Sabres have signed unrestricted free agent defenseman Teppo Numminen to a one-year contract.

I’d put that at approximately zero.
Too bad that (as far as I know) they haven’t been able to point at something definitively that caused his (Fischer’s) problem, so it isn’t as though a surgical procedure could correct it and the doctors could give him a more solid answer on the chances of it happening again.
No doubt he’d give a lot to be able to play again, but at least he still has a hockey-related job that he seems to enjoy and be good at. That’s more than a lot of people can say.

Yeah, Fisch doesn’t have a heart condition that can be “fixed” with surgery, so there’s really no way that he could play again without the threat of a liability suit so monstrous that he’ll never be allowed to play competitively, much less play in the NHL.
His hands are still there, and then some, he’s happy in his role, and the prospects love him, so there’s a moderately happy ending going on there…
And the longer Teppo Numminen plays, the happier I’ll be. Winnipeg lives!
