From Helene St. James at the Free Press:
Todd McLellan will be announced as the Sharks’ new head coach tomorrow, having agreed to a three-year deal. McLellan was assistant to Babcock the past three years.
McLellan flew to San Jose this weekend, and two days worth of interviews with general manager Doug Wilson went so well McLellan cancelled a meeting he had scheduled for later this week for the job in Atlanta.
Update 7:17pm ET: More from David Pollak at the Mercury News, who states that a press conference is scheduled tomorrow at 11am PT.
*hat-tip to Bill

As a Sharks fan and season ticket holder, I am very pleased with Doug Wilson’s choice. This should bring a new system, attitude and make over to a team that has struggled to find an identity, despite their successes over the past few years.

Good for Todd, he’s won in the AHL and NHL but I think they took the wrong DET assistant.

Damn.
I really thought he’d go at least interview for the Atlanta job as well.

He probably received an offer he couldn’t refuse. This isn’t to say San Jose overpaid for him, just that McLellan probably thought he wouldn’t find a better offer in Atlanta.

Rumor has it that Tortorella was the Sharks first choice, but he wanted too much money. And we all know how cheap Sharks management is, so they went for McLellan because he comes cheap..
Again he McLellan was not the Sharks first choice.
Watch either Tortorella or Hunter become the new head coach in Los Angeles.

I believe what Joe said, Tortella was the person they really wanted, but he wanted way too much money. CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP SAN JOSE MANAGEMENT. Don’t expect much in Free Agency, unless they can get someone CHEAP.
