from Peter Adler at the Cult of Hockey,
The Washington Capitals are in talks with two teams, the Edmonton Oilers and the Vancouver Canucks, about moving forward Tomas Fleischmann, 26, who is coming off a career year, an NHL source says.
If Edmonton were the place, Sheldon Souray would be heading to Washington. Kevin Bieksa would move from the Canucks to Washington.

I’ll be really pleased if they pick up Souray. He’s like the anti-dman they need.

This is insane “reporting” by Peter Adler… This is clearly the Cancukian perspective on things - the one-sidedness of those two proposals is absolutely insane. While GMGM has made some not-so-smart moves, I don’t think he’d want to add Souray to his team. That contract, his age and his lack of defensive acumen make him an unwanted addition. If the Caps were to engage with Edmonton, they’d likely want Smid or Whitney. And as for the Canucks, I’m certain they rather have Erhoff, but that doesn’t make any financial sense from a Canucks perspective. I think it is foolish to think that Meatman will be headed to either team as no trade seems to benefit both sides. Adler is hoping that a Canadian based team sheds an unwanted piece for a decent return… Nothing more..

Hey man I responded to your three thousand word essay in the other article. Check it out.
The Washington Capitals have a great offense. Obtaining one defender is not going to drastically change their defensive results. They should concentrate on what they are good at. Their offense is sick, but when it comes time for the playoff its nowhere to be found. They need to carry those skills into the playoffs.
In their series with the Habs, the capitals looked like they were going through the motions. Especially on the power play. Their powerplay looked terrible. It was very dull and un-imaginative. It seemed like they just stood still and took low percentage shots from the point. That was part of the reason Montreal was able to play such good defense. Montreal blocked shots like a wall. Its easy though when you know where the shot is coming from.
The Capitals players need to be ambulatory. They need to find the wholes and get some one timers going. Standing still allows defenders to set up the block. Halak also benefited in the same way. I think there was one game that Ovechkin didnt even record a shot.
I dont know whats wrong with that team. I like the Capitals. I would prefer to have them give the Penguins a run for their money. Its hard to say what the answer is for their success. Ovechkin is a great player but he can’t carry that team at all. Maybe it’s goal tending or defense. Because they do Jack SH*t postseason.
