Leafs Lunch reporting Weight in tonight.
added 1:57pm, from the morning skate at ESPN,
Russo: Could you imagine if Weight plays tonight?
Burnside We have two words for Doug Weight; Ethan Moreau. Actually four words, Ethan Moreau, Raffi Torres.
Burnside: Here’s the thing about the Doug Weight mystery. Do you think the Edmonton Oilers care at all if the Canes use a center with a gimpy shoulder or not? The answer is no. They do not care. What is a given is that, like Erik Cole on Saturday, if Weight plays he will be punished.

Sounds like some bitterness John!
This is a classic matter of risk vs reward! Not too often a guy gets to play in the finals, let alone game 7 at home! Risk further injury or watch game 7 from the press box. I know which choice I’d make!

John, Both Burnside and Russo are from the USA and don’t write with a Canadaian slant.

No bitterness, just sick and tired of the disrespect shown to the Canes, the fans and their city. Weight waived a no-trade clause for the chance to win a Cup. He knows the risk as did Jagr when he suffered a similiar injury in the Devils series. Weight and the coaching staff have to decide if he will help or hurt the team by playing. The original comments by Russo and Burnside are a joke. Like Weight doesn’t know they will come after him? I think we all know that! LOL!

I never said that Burnside and Russo were Canadian did I? I have read plenty of articles all playoffs long and the bottom line is the Canes and the city of Raleigh get no respect. How many times is the word NASCAR used in an article when discussing the playoffs? We aren’t idiots and if the NHL wants to grow the game in markets like Raleigh, show some respect for our intelligence.

I hope this doesn’t backfire. With Cole in game six, a number of chances went for not due to his timing being off. I can’t believe they played him on the point on the powerplay. Beyond Cole, the entire team looked flat, besides maybe Recchi who skates every shift like a wrecking ball! The Canes don’t need Weight to come in and be unable to perform. I’d rather have a body closer to 100% that won’t shy away from contact to retreive the puck. Of course, if he can really go, more power to him, but I don’t think you should plug a guy in just because he’s a vetern.

Cole looked pretty good for his first game back and should look better tonight. If Weight can’t really shoot or pass he is a liability out there. The Canes need to pick up their defense because it has been sorely lacking the past two games. They also need more out of the captain and Williams.

I am sure if it was an Oiler, everyone would be talking about how tough he was and what a warrior etc. Looks like Cole survived Game 6 just fine. I am quite certain Weight knows what he is dealing with but then again the only people who know anything about hockey are in Canada, right?
