via Sportsnet,

The Boston Bruins and defenceman Dennis Wideman have avoided salary arbitration by agreeing on a new four-year deal worth $15.75 million, Sportsnet has learned.

The 25-year-old, Kitchener, ON native made $600,000 last season.

I know he’s a great player but I don’t think I will ever remember him for anything more than that shootout fiasco. Go to youtube and look up “Wideman goes wide”...no matter how many times I watch it, it always makes me laugh.

That’s alot of money for a slow defenseman. But hey Chara makes $7.5m so what do I know.....

He is not worth anything near that figure. What the hell is going on? Little wonder Boston is near the cap.

haha, I wonder how many times Finger and Wideman appear in the allstar game, have a +20 +/-, or record - say - 40 or so points over each season of their contracts. Never? yeahhhh

I believe Boston is over the cap with the Wideman deal.

Wideman will get 40 points. He had 13 goals last year. He’s just not a bruiser or a great skater so he will never be an elite defenseman but he is still a good player.
