from Curtis Zupke of Ducks Blog at the OC Register,
No matter how harsh the emails or nasty the message boards become, Tom Feuer likes the Rinkside View.
Feuer, executive producer for FSN, has been the target of a majority of angry hockey fans who don’t care for the network’s unorthodox broadcasts of selected Ducks and Kings games this season.
Yet after meeting with representatives from both teams and reviewing the ratings for the games, Feuer has not been dissuaded from continuing the “Rinkside” telecasts.
He said the ratings for the games have been up despite continued negative feedback.
I watched the first Rinkside View broadcast and thought it was ok, but when switching from the camera view behind the net to the side view, it was a bit confusing at times…

Paul, is there any way you could bring this to the attention of John Shannon, the NHL broadcasting guy? The NHL should not allow this to continue, I don’t think they can really afford to alienate viewers and that’s exactly what the Ducks and Kings are doing by allowing this idiot to continue. It’s this kind of crap why I refuse to watch games on Versus anymore, they zoom in so #$&* much you can’t see plays developing at all and then they constantly cut to a close up of some player on the bench that the announcers are talking about while the game is IN PROGRESS! I have subscribed to the NHL Center Ice satellite package for 10 years now but the televising of games is really going downhill and I will not renew if it continues. I can’t believe hockey has so many fans, especially in LA, that they can afford to alienate them.

The ratings are up because the Kings games that are broadcast using Rinkside are also in HD. Let’s see them do a Rinkside game not in HD and see if the ratings stay that high.

I absolutely hated it until I watched for a while and got used to it. Now I just don’t like it at all.

someone has to put an end to this rinkside view, it is terrible and impossible to watch. for those of you who dont believe me try watching the highlights of the kings game on sat night. http://www.nhl.com/ice/scores.htm?date=11/08/2008 doughty’s goal is impossible to see why would the league continue to allow this nonsense.
as a fan of hockey who is looking to watch as many games a night as possible, i can honestly say that i have stopped watching kings and ducks games because of this stupidity.
