Rivet Ready To Play In Buffalo

from Bucky Gleason of the Buffalo News,

“I’m not going to lie. I wasn’t happy about being moved,” Rivet said by telephone. “It wasn’t the point of me going to Buffalo. I didn’t care where I would have gone. I was leaving a place that I really enjoyed. I had a great setup, and now that’s done. Now, I have to start over. We’ve heard great things about Buffalo. We’re excited.”

At first, it sounded like Rivet was sincere about the trade before backing off with lip service about the town. Actually, he’s been doing his homework. He sees the Sabres going in the right direction with a core of young players. Along the way, he’s learning that his perception of Buffalo was actually a misperception.

I still have a bit of lingering anger about this.  I think it was very unprofessional of Mr Wilson to trade a man they had just signed to an extension a year before, especially a guy like Rivet.  They signed him to a deal that would have kept him there a while longer and he loved the city and team.  I understand trades have to be made but I would have rather have let Tampa keep Lukowich and then we can keep Rivet.  I honestly don’t believe the salary cap was the problem.  Signing Blake was a mistake that cost us Rivet.  I’m glad he’s over it but this team lost some of its competitive spirit when they traded him.  Buffalo got a steal there.  I may become a fan of Buffalo with him there.

Matt, there are lots of Sharks fans who agree with everything you said.  Rivet was one of the few Sharks who gave it his all every game.  I’m still pissed at Doug Wilson for this trade.  I too will be rooting for Buffalo this season.
