Roadtrip to the NHL Store in NYC

From Puck Daddy at Yahoo! Sports…

The abridged review of the NHL Powered by Reebok Featuring XM with Special Appearance by Starbucks Store: Cool gear, awesome customer service, but I was promised an ice wall “which serves as a backdrop to feature merchandise as well as the Stanley Cup at select times throughout the year,” and I did not get to see an ice wall “which serves as a backdrop to feature merchandise as well as the Stanley Cup at select times throughout the year.”

But Puck Daddy has fun nonetheless, reviewing the NHL store, accompanied by photos. (Including an ever-so-slightly disturbing image of my fine friend copping a feel off a female mannequin wearing a Blues t-shirt...)

I went to NYC for spring break, and i found the store to be very disappointing. It’s kinda small, there was nothing there really all that great.

I visited the store on 6-2-08 while I was in NY.

Overall, it was a cool place to visit and spend some time browsing around. I was impressed by the hockey stick chandelier, the 32 mannequins dressed in NHL jerseys, the flat screen TVs playing hockey highlights, The Orange County Chopper with the NHL theme, and the large player portraits.

I was, however, disappointed with the overall selection of merchandise from teams other than those from the NY area. As a Florida Panthers fan, I’m used to getting no respect. But I thought a store that puts itself out there as the NHL mecca would’ve done a better job of recognizing that this league has 32 teams. I know they’re there to make a profit, but thousands of people from all across North America visit that city every day and many of them make the trek to the NHL store to relish the coolness of all things hockey and to buy merchandise from their favorite team. It would save a lot of angst and disappointment if Reebok would just come out and tell you what to really expect (a load of Rangers crap and very little else).

I had a good time visiting the store. I was there for a little over 45 minutes checking everything out. In the end I spent $33 on two Panthers keychains and two Panthers luggage tags…
