GLENDALE, ARIZONA -- Phoenix Coyotes General Manager Don Maloney announced today that the Coyotes have signed center Robert Lang to a one-year contract. As per club policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed.
“We are very pleased to have signed Robert Lang,” said Maloney. “He provides another veteran presence for our team and is a proven scorer in the National Hockey League.”

“We are very pleased to have signed Robert Lang,” said Maloney. “He provides another veteran presence for our team and is a proven floater in the National Hockey League. We fully expect Robert to hang out somewhere around the hash marks, avoiding any contact with opposing players, while he chips in 10 or 12 goals this year.”
There. Fixed.

As a Habs fan, I gotta say the rumors of Lang’s floating are greatly exagerated. In a team full of slackers last year, he was one of the more consistent producers (18 goals, 39 pts in 50 games). Of course, he’s no Iginla or Getzlaf, but who is?
He may have been a slacker elsewhere, but I’d feel bad if I didn’t balance the bashing with some good words for Langer. In fact, some say his injury kickstarted the Habs demise last year… not me though. But still, he’s a good guy in my book

I’m stealing this line from someone else but hearing Detroit fans talk about their former support players is like hearing a rich kid talk down a Mustang.

Well, I guess when you’re comparing him to, oh… the Kostitsyns, yeah he might be marginally better at times. Thought I guess they had the master to learn from last season in Lang…
But that’s like saying a punch to the nuts is better than a kick to the nuts.

You’re absolutely right about that, but the fact is he’s going to Phoenix now, and I don’t think they’ve got the same standards as Wings fans in terms of sustained production. Mediocrity does that to you (and me too it would seem.... damn those years of suckage!)
So I don’t think he’ll be a problem there at all and he’ll go along his merry way scoring at least 20 this year.

This is brilliant. As a car fan I totally understand, but honestly, Lang is more like a V6 mustang with a gaudy body kit, paint, and wheels. Make sure you have some power before making it look like an (ugly) race car. Stop fixing your hair Robert.

he’ll be traded by trading deadline

I just hope he has a chance to play healthy after that gruesome injury last year.

It’s not the Wings fans that got him booted out of Detroit. It was the organ-I-zation (from Mr. I on down to the video guy) that caused the Wings to let him go. He may have played better than the slackers on the Habs squad last year, but that doesn’t mean he’s anything but a “pylon” in the offensive zone and a complete “sieve” in the defensive zone.
There’s no doubt that Bobbie was a fine player when the Wings got him in 2004. But five years later, he’s just a guy with a nice hairdo and an occasionally brilliant slapshot. But, hey, here’s hoping that he does well and that the Coyotes didn’t give him more than $800k.
