“I have a lot of respect for Wayne,” Roenick said. “The guy is an icon. He’s always uplifting [and] his knowledge is always respected. I hope he takes a greater role in this team [and] is a stronger voice in the next couple of years. He’s one of the true, class people in the National Hockey League. He wants to win really bad and deserves to have a winning team. I respect him immensely,” he said.
“I’ve always been a complainer my whole life, but that doesn’t mean I don’t think Wayne is one of the greatest in the game. He’ll turn this team around in a couple years.”
Gretzky just rolled his eyes when asked about Roenick’s status.
