from Lightning Strikes,
Perhaps it was just posturing. Perhaps he just didn’t want to give anything away. Or maybe Brian Rolston is so committed to exploring his worth on the open market, the Lightning is going to have to work like crazy to get him signed.
Whatever the motivations, Rolston’s agent Stephen Bartlett played it close to the vest Monday afternoon when asked how negotiations were going with Tampa Bay.
“We’ve had some discussions,” he said.

He’s coming home baby! 1.5 million people in the streets of your hometown chanting your name at the end of the year… that’s worth something.

Is it just me, or does this read like “How can he possibly resist? Why hasn’t he signed already?” Like Rolston should just roll over like a puppy and let the Bolts rub his tummy (with a new contract).
Kind of. He’s not naive or stupid - he’s probably listening carefully to what Tampa is selling and deciding if it makes sense for him, knowing perfectly well that he will be getting a few offers on Tuesday.
No harm in listening - and decided against their offer if it isn’t what he is looking for.
