Ron Wilson Annoyed With Howard Berger

Ron Wilson ‘addresses’ Leafs beat-man Howard Berger after last night’s victory over the Islanders.

Howard Berger of Fan590 responds…

If there is one thing, among many, that I’ve learned in my first season around Ron Wilson, it’s that the coach of the Maple Leafs doesn’t react well to criticism. That’s not to suggest the other Leaf coaches I’ve had experience with in the past 20 years enjoyed being challenged, but Wilson takes it as a particular affront — mainly because of his heightened sensitivity to all things media.

I think anyone even remotely familiar with Ron Wilson’s history and the Toronto media could have predicted this.  I’m a little surprised it took so long.

Howie was out of line with his question after the Ottawa game and purposely barbed and goaded Wilson.

However, the post-game assault by Ron was so obviously planned. Ron could have confronted Berger 100 different ways and times. It was done to get onto Sportscentre in my mind.

Thank you Ron, for saying what us fans have long thought about Howard Berger.
Sure he planned what he said, but Berger is rediculous, and the fact that he denied asking a question which is on record for all of us to see shows how worthless he is.
The Toronto sports media is a joke and I for one am glad that Wilson is willing to call them out.  Maybe we’ll get some more intelligent articles out of this, rather than the standard fare.

Could have also been done as a way to put Berger on notice: Continue acting like a D-bag, and your access is restricted.

If you’re going to throw barbs, throw them in your column in the paper or on your radio show. Don’t throw them in person, face to face. Jeff Schultz of the AJC learned that with Thrashers GM Don Waddell, which inevitably cost him the job of Thrashers beat writer.
