Round 2 Refs

from TSN,

With the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs over, the National Hockey League has trimmed the number of referees that will work the second round.

The list of those staying on is headlined by Paul Devorski, Don Koharski and Bill McCreary, all of whom have worked more than 1,500 regular season and playoff games.

Notably absent from the second round is referee Kerry Fraser, who has also worked more than 1,500 regular season and playoff games.

Paul Devorski, Don Koharski, great call on that Philly goal the other night—EGAD!

Funny that the refs who worked both Games 2 & 5 of the NY-NJ series are gone.

Devorski and Koharski should not be working the second round… they were awful last night!  Just brutal.  When an official has an impact on the outcome of a game they are not doing their job properly :-(

Six out of the ten who worked that series are gone, when you’d expect only 4 out of ten (based on 8 out of 20 getting the chop). So I guess it was the worst-officiated series by that measure?

Devorski and Koharski should not be working the second round

What’s interesting to me is that they split up two “successful” pairs (Devorski’s and Koharski’s previous partners, Leggo and Sutherland will also be in round 2) for that game 7. Why not leave one of the previous pairs intact?

The other two game 7’s had new pairings as well, made up from the good halves of “50/50” pairs. I guess that makes a little more sense, but I still don’t understand the use of three fresh pairings when they had four “successful” pairs to pick from.

Are we to infer from this that the game 7 refs are considered to be the best by the NHL?
