TSN reporting Conklin to Sabres.
added 11:13am, via TSN,
The Buffalo Sabres have finally parted ways with netminder Martin Biron, trading him to the Philadelphia Flyers for an undisclosed draft pick and acquired netminder Ty Conklin from the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Biron makes $2.2 million this season and will become an unrestricted free agent on July 1.

Doesn’t this almost have to be a salary dump by Buffalo for another pending deal? If not, it seems like they’re in some trouble considering the injuries they’re dealing with up front.

Great move by the Flyers! They have really made the most of getting some pieces to start over next year.

There is no dount Esche is dealt here today sometime.
And Conklin, I agree, he isnt someone Id want as a back up, although he played really well the other night for the Jackets.

From Biron to Conklin as your playoff backup is a bit of a mystery. Until we see what pick the Sabres received I can’t imagine the salary dumped is enough to jeopardize their playoff run. The Sabres have to be contemplating another move since the Flyers are not going to give up a great draft pick for a non-playoff rental.

I would say that Buffalo has something else up their sleeve if they are trading Biron for a pick. Could be something big!

I’m scared to find out what the draft pick will be. I’m thinking Sixth round, 2009.

Maybe Buffalo , if they get the 1st pick overall this summer in Columbus, from Philadeplhia, want Angelo Esposito.

I don’t think they traded their own pick, I think it is more likely a pick they received from Nashville.

Agree with Mac. It’s got to be that Nashville pick. This is a great deal for the Flyers. Goaltenders like Biron don’t grow on trees. I would assume they can and will resign him, even if it’s for a bit too much.

TSN mentioned as soon as the trade took place that it could be the 1st, 2nd or 3rd pick in this summers draft, and havent said that again.
Now it says for an undisclosed pick.
Go figure.

Another home run for Philly. They are making some smart moves. Conklin would be the last guy I want backing my team after seeing him blow a game and potentially the cup in the first game of the stanley cup finals last year.
