San Jose Reaction To Shootout Loss

from Working the Corners,
The stakes weren’t as high. This wasn’t Game 4 in a second-round Stanley Cup series against Detroit. But the pattern, well, it fit — give up tying goal in last minute of third period, lose in overtime.
Don’t think that wasn’t what Sharks goalie Evgeni Nabokov — and others –had on their minds Thursday night after the Sharks’ 3-2 shootout loss to Phoenix.
“It’s tough to be in this position. It almost sounds funny, that we have to learn from our mistakes, but it’s happened too often,” Nabokov said. “I don’t know what to tell you, to be honest with you. It sucks to lose that way, to lose the point.”

Kukla’s Korner is always a free service for readers, but it costs some money to maintain. If you’re ever in a position to donate a few dollars to help out, we’d be very appreciative.

When your only consistent players are your goalie and 1 centre, there’s no way you’re going to be winners in this league. EVERYONE on this team has to start taking responsibility instead of just talking about it. Your goalie can’t save the game for you every time. Eventually, he’s not going to make that save you need. If the Sharks had buried more of their chances in the game, this last goal wouldn’t have mattered. That Detroit series was the first thing I thought of about this game too. They played relatively well for the first 59 minutes but couldn’t play for that last 59 seconds.
Sure, we have the lowest goals against in the league but we can’t score either. I’m starting to lose faith in this team. We should be ahead of everyone in the standings. We had our chance at the beginning of the season when our division was playing pathetic. We could have pulled far ahead of our division but nope, we’ve got to join the crowd and play as bad as everyone else. If they don’t get far into the playoffs this year, I hope they trade Thornton and Nabokov So I can at least watch my two favorite players on a team that can win consistently.
There’s my rant for today.
PS: I still like the Sharks and will next year, I’m sure (I’m just really annoyed) but they need to start stepping up to the plate and hit some out of the park, so to speak, to get the fans and their confidence back.
