Sather Talks Jagr & Avery

from John Dellapina of the NY Daily News,
Glen Sather yet again pledged his affection for Jaromir Jagr Saturday. And with just 10 days remaining until Jagr can hit the NHL’s open market, the Rangers’ general manager is at least exploring ways to keep him from getting there.
“I know that Jaromir would like to come back,” Sather said. “I’ve met with his agent two or three times now. I met with him here the other day. He told me he wants to come back. I’ve said that I want to have him back. And that’s where it is.”
Also from Dellapina at the NY Daily News,
Rangers GM Glen Sather spent the entire, 30-minute seventh round of the NHL draft sitting with Avery’s agent Pat Morris Saturday. And after Morris made his pitch, complete with a folder full of statistical evidence, he emerged all but convinced that Avery won’t be re-signed before becoming an unrestricted free agent at noon on July 1.
“We had an interesting dialogue, and there appears to be disagreement over what Sean’s value is to the New York Rangers,” Morris said.

I love Minny’s jerseys.
That throwback style is awesome.
They could donate the Islanders jerseys to the road crews - those bright orange arms are impossible to miss when driving at night.
Avery is clearly important to the Rangers, but it isn’t necessarily him in particular as the type of player he is, so they might be able to replace what he brings to the team with a lower-priced feisty, pesky player - or a few energetic callups.
I could see Sean Avery going to Toronto if they buy out Darcy Tucker, though. Same style, but quicker and younger - and more irritating even than Tucker.

Sean wants more money than he’s worth? Why am I not surprised? Or maybe he just wants the rights to redesign the Ranger uniform? If that’s the case, please let him sign with the Wild or Islanders… In a league with god-awful new jerseys (thanks Reebok. Morons), those two are the worst of the worst.
