Sather’s Moves May Have Saved The Season

from Mike Milbury at Blogs and Columns at CBC,
Give GM Glen Sather credit for recognizing that Plan A was not working out. And blame him for putting together Plan A, while you’re at it. The game humbles us all, including the hall of fame GM and coach with a fistful of Cup rings on his resume. And befitting the competitive son of a gun that he is, Slats went to work.
Not only did the coaching change occur, personnel moves followed rapidly. Sean Avery, who from the beginning told associates that he had made a mistake by signing with Dallas in the summer for the most cash as opposed to playing where he wanted to be, made an impact with teammates and fans akin to prodding a lazy cow.

And Mike Milbury is a really good judge of talent. Just look at all those spare parts he traded, like:
Roberto Luongo
Wade Redden (When he was good)
Zdeno Chara
Jason Spezza
Tim Connolly
...I could go on, but I think you can catch my drift

To be fair, he traded the pick that was used to select Jason Spezza.
I still balk at the talk that Redden’s $39 million over six years is the worst NHL contract. It could well rank up there if his play this season sets the standard, but it was Milbury over in Long Island who handed the 10-year $87.5 million beast to Yashin, especially after all the evidence that came out of Ottawa with him demanding more money at every turn and failing to be motivated to play to his potential time and time again.

LoL, I was going to write a lengthy paragraph, but I think the above posers pretty much hit everything I was going to say. It’s funny how a guy who utterly destroyed his organizaation and was making a lengthy case for worse GM in the past 20 years can make a judge of anything.

At least Redden actually is on the ice, and his slide could be reversed, maybe. He has played very well before, and will be an asset to a team if he returns to form.
Rick DiPietro looks to be the worst contract right now, I think.

Fortunately, when Milbury writes about Sather it makes it tough to decide which of the two is the bigger idiot.
So, the Rags are 5-3-2 in their last 10. They lost TWO IN A ROW to the Leafs in SO/OTs. Their wins are against Boston (who is struggling), Colorado and the Isles (who suck), and Nashville (with their backup) and Philly. The only road wins were Nashville and the Isles.
... and this means there are signs of life?
