Saying Sorry Isn’t Enough

from Mark Spector of Sportsnet,

“It was a freaky play.” - Jarome Iginla.

“Obviously, I didn’t mean to hurt him.” - Mike Richards.

“Oh my God.” - Sabres forward Clarke MacArthur.

-----

The former two players I know to be good guys and honest players. I don’t know MacArthur, but people I trust say he is a solid, decent guy.

All of which means nothing to their victims. Because let’s face it: a concussion is a concussion, whether it comes one of the best people in the game in Iginla, or from Jordin Tootoo or Sean Avery.

Again, will someone please explain to me what exactly makes Iginla such a great person?  Seems to me a guy that butt-ends other players and cross-checks them in their bad back repeatedly when their team is getting blown out of a playoff game is just a classless punk.  Just ask Henrik Zetterberg, he was on the receiving end of both of those dirty scenarios in the same game.  Iginla is also the “captain” of the team that sent a backup goalie into the game with the sole purpose of attacking another player with his stick.  Nice leadership there.

Iginla has no regard or respect for his fellow players, but the fact he can score goals makes him a great person?  Please.

You notice out of those 3 comments above from the players that sent others to the hospital, only Iginla showed no remorse for injuring someone, took no blame, but just essentially said it wasn’t his fault, it was just bad luck.

Way to stay classy Jarome.

Here’s some suggestions:

- Teach players to skate with their heads up.
- Teach players how to take hits so they don’t stop four feet from the boards and put themselves in vulnerable positions to get hit.
- Ban hardshell shoulder pads or make the current shoulder pads softer and more shock absorbent.
- tell players to properly adjust their helmet strap so their helmet can do it’s job.

have fun playing hockey
