via TSN,
After being drafted together in 1999, and playing their entire careers on the same club, the Sedin brothers Daniel and Henrik will continue that trend now in Vancouver.
The brothers have signed a pair of five-year contacts, averaging $6.1 million a season.

Since they have never proven they can play effectively apart, they should take 6.1 million combined.

I wonder if that means Gaborik isn’t going to play for the Canucks, as far as cap space how are they going to sign him?

Well, at least it’s not the 12 year contracts that were rumored.
Still, wow. Do the ‘Nucks have any cap space left after that?

Lame. This news is hardly exciting.

There is nothing going on right now, I though there would be a lot of signings already.

I can’t see the Canucks ever winning anything with the Sedins at the head of the team. This was a great opportunity for them to move on and not chain themselves to not one, but TWO bad contracts.... and they botched it.
You can’t trade one of them away, and which teams are going to be able to take on BOTH to facilitate a trade?
Scratch that. The Rangers will clearly try to trade for them. That was so obvious I can’t believe I almost missed it.

Vancouver still have approx. $10.7M left.

Throw in an overpaid and overrated goalie like Luongo and you have the makings of a seriously mediocre team.

This was definitely the safe move. They don’t lose face by having their two biggest names and most regular point producers bolt. They can say they secured the future of the franchise and “win the press conference” but I’ve got to think this is a sad day for Vancouver fans.

I should clarify: It’s the safe move for a front office that doesn’t have the confidence to do the unconventional when it’s the best for the team, and safe is death for the team’s chances to win it all.
I’ve been a firm “let them walk and you’ll win out in the end” supporter unless they’d be willing to take <4/yr apiece and the team could build a top line over them while slotting them as slightly overpaid 2nd liners that could produce.

But ... but ... I thought Luongo was an elite goalie!
I don’t know. It’s so hard to even think of the twins as separate, so it’s easy to consider it as one huge contract for a $12.2 million cap hit. I suppose it depends on if Vancouver can fill out the rest of the roster with inexpensive but useful players that work very well within the Sedins and Luongo framework.

Well, 10.7 ain’t bad.
Then then might have enough room for Gaborik.

$10.7M....that’s perfect. Now they can give Mats Sundin that $10M they always wanted to..............

12.2M/year fir five years, for the Sedins???
Wow.
Enjoy your stay as the 9th- or 10th-best team in the NHL for the next half-decade, Vancouver.

Has their ever been two brothers in sports so joined at the hip as these two? I thought it was cool when Vancouver drafted the two and kept them together when they were young. But now, after basically demanding a package deal, you have to wonder if they have self confidence issues.

Aren’t they the Sedin sisters.......that’s what it looks like
