Selanne Goes ‘Home’

from Jeff Miller of the OC Register,
In 18 NHL seasons and 1,259 NHL games and four NHL uniforms – including the Ducks twice – Teemu Selanne has been seen in every possible setting by his teammates.
Almost.
Because, on Sunday, most of the Ducks will see him in a place where they’ve never seen him before.
At home. In Finland.
“I’m sure,” Bobby Ryan said, “the fan reaction is going to be off the charts.”
“I kind of expect them to be civil,” said Toni Lydman, one of Selanne’s fellow Fins, “but you never know.”
“I think,” Cam Fowler said simply, “it’s going to be mayhem.”

I hope the Finnish fans turn out in droves to salute Teemu. On a Ducks team that contains some real garbage (cough*Perry*cough), he’s a class guy. I would have loved to see him in a Wings jersey.

Did anyone else see this headline and get your hopes up thinking he was traded to Winnipeg?
No, not really. Anaheim is his team, his second home and the place he won the cup! He should retire a Duck!!
Also these reporters need to learn that people from Finland are called Finns, not “Fins”, that would only apply to Shark fans!

I’m not trying to be rude but I’m always a bit surprised when people think Selanne would sign with the Jets. This is his 12th year with the Ducks. His children have all been born and raised in Southern California. Why would he uproot them to move to Winnepeg for a season?
