from The Spin, the blog of Damien Cox of the Toronto Star,
So much for the concern that there would be next to little action before the Feb. 27 NHL trade deadline.
So much for the concern the salary cap would be too much of an impediment to activity, and that there wouldn’t be enough obvious sellers because of the closeness of the conference races.
So much for the worry that moving the trade deadline back to late February would suffocate the market.

I think with the parity now in the league and the earlier trade deadline, its going to be harder for bubble teams like the Rangers, Maple Leafs, Oilers, etc, to bite the bullet and become sellers like they probably would in the past.

I’ve said for weeks that business would pick up as the deadline approached and more teams fell out of playoff contention.
Depending on cap space and parity from year to year, the trend is emerging during a hockey season. Little to no activity in the first two-three months, business picking up in January and then significantly increasing in the final month leading to deadline day.
March,April and May will be dead months, of course, but then from mid-June to end-September, players will be on the move.
