Senators Haven’t Done Much

from Don Brennan of the Ottawa Sun,

As season turned to post-season turned to off-season, Joe Public and his friends have not witnessed the Senators getting any better.

And that’s only because they’re not.

The team’s response thus far to a tailspin that saw it barely qualify for the playoffs, then leave quickly and quietly under the guidance of the Pittsburgh Penguins?

Replacing one of the all-time leaders in coaching victories with a man who has not been a bench boss in the NHL yet this century, adding a backup goalie and third- or fourth-line winger.

The Senators have also bid farewell to the best defenceman in franchise history, the only goalie that ever took them to the Stanley Cup final and one of the best fighters in the Eastern Conference.

Have got to agree with you about a class act with defenseman Wade Redden. They will never replace him, and he was a big key to this team. I hope he picks up his game in New York, and becomes the player he once was. Murray did not show much respect for Redden and all he had done for the Ottawa Senators. They should get rid of Murray and get somebody in that knows what they are doing!

Bowman traded away Keith Primeau and very popular Paul Coffey for Brendan Shanahan.  All we got out of that deal was our first Cup since 1955.

Bowman left Mike Vernon on waivers and we got our second Cup.

Holland traded away point-per-playoff-game Kozlov for Hasek and we got our third Cup.

Tough decisions have to be made to win Championships.

Maybe letting Redden go just might be the catalyst for the Sens to get over the hump.
