Send A Fan To A Game In London

I asked Leafer Sutherland to do a little write-up on this after reading about it on a facebook group….

Loren, or better known as ‘Loz’ to those of us on the internet, happens to be a big time Anaheim Ducks fan. And judging by the databases at both theNHLarena and allducks, she has been for quite some time now and well before the Ducks managed to win Lord Stanley’s Cup this past spring, making it a trendier thing to do.

The unique thing about this specific NHL fan is that she lives in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England. In fact, she has never set foot on this continent, let alone had the chance to catch an Anaheim game live.

When the news came around that the Anaheim Ducks would face the Los Angeles Kings in London for a 2 game series which would kick off our 07-08 season, the obvious question was, “Hey Loz, are you going to the game?” And unfortunately the answer was “No.”

This sparked the novel idea from one of our avid Kings fans ‘MtnJoeSchmo’ to kick off a drive, in hopes of earning enough money to help our English friend get to London to catch the game. Which probably tells you a little about her character, given that a fan of the arch rival Kings would display that type of compassion, let alone give a damn at all.

Together, Zita (the owner of theNHLarena) and myself have decided to undertake in this cause.

Neither of us can even pretend to know how hard it would be for an 18 year old girl to be so far removed from her favorite team and sport, due to her surroundings. We suspect that her family and friends may not share in her love for the game. We also figure that in order to be a fan of a Western based NHL club, it would take some very late nights of whatever little coverage is offered out there, while getting most of her information off the internet.

Honestly, I’m not sure how pressing this story is to those that might not have had the pleasure of knowing Loren. Yet, I feel that this is a worthy cause. While the NHL has decided to send two of it’s clubs over theAtlantic to promote our league to the fine people of London, we believe that it should also cater to the few fans that already follow the game. And considering that Loz is such a well-liked and upstanding member of our online community, we wish for our community to give back to it’s members. For it is people like Loren that help build this great relationship between the NHL and the WWW.

In less than 48 hours we have received more than half of our goal in donations from people around the globe, both friends and strangers. And with your help we can get Loren to London and through the turn styles at the o2 Center to watch her team defend its championship against their rival Kings.

J.T.,  I would think she would like to see an actual NHL game and see her team perform.
Not sure why this would upset you, but you are entitled to your opinion.

J.T. She lives in the UK, and has no idea we are trying to put this together. I’m a huge Kings fan and have been to many many games. This is her only chance to get to see any game live. Unless she moves to the US of course.

Dude J.T. she has never seen an NHL team and what has Loz done to you that you treat this subject so “Black-Heartedly” ?
