Sens Owner Suggests Leafs Get Competitive

from the Toronto Sun,

Eugene Melnyk has a novel idea to spice up the Battle of Ontario.

How about if the Maple Leafs got into the playoffs for a change?

“You would like to see the Leafs competitive,” Melnyk, the owner of the Ottawa Senators, said. “I think they are making changes that will make them more competitive. They have to. We’ll see what happens. (The rivalry) does lose a little lustre, but it is still there and it will continue. But hopefully it never gets reversed and we keep winning.”

Right Euge, and how many times have the Senators defeated the Leafs in the playoffs again?  lol

Granted he is right that the Leafs had their problems over the past two seasons, and I also agree with his point that they have made some positive changes…

Sens can beat the Leafs during the season all they want, but as long as the playoff streak continues I think Euge should worry about his team and not another one…

A little history can help here… since the Sens entered the league in 1992 they have made the playoffs 11 times, in that same period the Leafs made the playoffs 11 times. Prior to last year the Sens made it to the conference finals once, the Leafs four times. I’ll give the Sens the credit, they did win on their second trip to the conference finals and did get to play in the Cup final. So, maybe Eugene should have picked a better way to ask the Leafs to come back into the playoffs to beat up on the Sens since they are 0-4 in playoff series versus the Leafs.
