from Eric Duhatschek of the Globe and Mail,
Officially, the NHL is scheduled to announce the salary cap for the 2006-07 season on June 30, or just after they receive a preliminary financial summary of the just completed year.
Based on that forecast and the formula devised in the collective bargaining agreement, the salary cap will be set between $45-million and $46-million, while the payroll floor (the minimum amount that every team must spend on salaries) will be set at $29-million or $30-million. That would give teams exactly 24 hours notice, before they can collectively uncap their pens and let the free agency season begin.
