Shades Of Roy In Colorado

from Mark Kiszla of the Denver Post,
Unlike Patrick Roy, his number doesn’t ever figure to hang from the rafters of a hockey rink in Denver. Nobody confuses him with New Jersey’s Martin Brodeur, owner of more wins than any goaltender in NHL history. But as the Colorado crowd chanted “Andy, Andy!” in the closing seconds of the third period Saturday, there was no doubt who was the man in the Avs’ 3-1 victory against the Devils.
Craig Anderson is the No. 1 reason Colorado stands proudly in first place of the Northwest Division. In a year of shocking success by the Avs, who qualifies as the most pleasant surprise of all? Say it loud:
Andy, Andy, Andy.
Which made me wonder: What in the world was Team USA general manager Brian Burke thinking when he picked a 23-man squad for the Olympic tournament that did not include Anderson?
“It’s a small wedding. Only 23 seats,” Burke said Saturday, responding to my question by e-mail.
