On Leafs Lunch at AM640, Darren Dreger commented a few moments ago that Brendan Shanahan’s re-signing in New York is “imminent”, suggesting it could happen even later today.

According to Rick Curran, Brendan Shanahan’s agent, the right wing’s return to New York is still very much a possibility after speaking with Glen Sather this week.
The possible hold up? You guessed it. The Rangers have virtually no money under the salary cap.

Move Prucha?
I don’t follow the Eastern conference, but I thought Prucha was a decent young player. It seems a bit stupid to move him for a much older player who fades near the end of the season.

Prucha was on pace for a 40 goal season in his rookie year (if he had played all 82 games)… and last year he scored 7 in 62 games :(

Yeah, but for some reason the coach doesn’t seem to like Prucha. His sophomore year, he gets replaced on the PP by Shanny and it’s been all downhill from there. I love the guy, but if Renney’s not going to use him effectively, better to trade him for something (draft pick=cap space) or someone they will use. Not that I want there to be room for Shanahan. I really wish Sather had just let go.

I honestly don’t see how this is possible. Right now, the Rangers lines are as follows:
Drury-Gomez-Naslund
Zherdev-Dubinsky-Voros
Dawes-Korpikoski-Callahan
Orr-Betts-either Prucha, Rissmiller, Fritsche or Sjostrom
As one can tell, the team does not have much room for him.
