via TSN,
Brendan Shanahan has found a job.
The recently retired NHL star will officially be hired by the NHL today.
Sources say the announcement is expected to come on NHL commissioner Gary Bettman’s weekly radio show this afternoon.
It’s not known at this point what Shanahan’s official title or precise job description is, but it’s likely that he’ll work both with Bettman and deputy commissioner Bill Daly in the NHL’s New York office, although he’s also likely to be involved with executive vice president Colie Campbell’s Toronto-based hockey operations department.
added 11:17am, TSN now has Shanny’s official title- Vice President, Hockey and Business Development.

Don’t worry, Osrt. He’s planning a take-over from the inside.

At least you can count on someone from that office not just “talking the company line” so to speak.

I agree that it seems bizarre Shanahan would end up in the league office, not the NHLPA office.
Maybe the fact that Shanahan joined the league speaks volumes as to what he thinks of the PA at this point?

Shanny wants to be the next comissioner of the NHL. This isn’t surprising. I don’t think he ever wanted anything to do with the NHLPA. Hes more interested in growing the game and increasing the quality of play than anything else.

Hopefully the NHL doesn’t give Shanny “the mushroom treatment” like the Norris family gave Gordie Howe when he retired from the Wings.

Reposted from A2Y:
If Shanny went to the NHLPA, he would just end up being the general of the players’ army come CBA time, and most of his wisdom would fall on the deaf ears of those who actually control how the game is conducted. Perhaps with a sane, eloquent individual like Mr. Shanahan at ground zero of where the real action is, he can affect some meaningful change in this den of inequity that is the current NHL administration.
My fingers are crossed.
