Shane O’Brien Suspended One Game

from Ben Kuzma of the Vancouver Province,

Shane O’Brien has received a one-game suspension for sticking it to Sean Avery on Tuesday at GM Place.

The Vancouver Canucks defenceman, who had been benched after taking a double-minor penalty late in the second period, stormed the length of the players’ bench early in the third period to challenge the agitating Avery and stuck his stick into the abdomen of the New York Rangers winger.

O’Brien was so worked up that he had to be restrained by Canucks coach Alain Vigneault.

“You never want to be suspended and I don’t think it deserves one, but I’ll take my punishment,” said O’Brien, who won’t be eligible to play Thursday night against the Minnesota Wild.

I don’t know how you can think that you’re not going to get suspended after that. You just don’t jab your stick into people. He really lacked a lot of discipline in this game and the NHL saw that.

Dumb. One game suspension for this? Remember when Avery was suspended indefinitely for talking about someones girlfriend.?

And yet the intentional head shots and slew footing go unchallenged.

Yeah, i know, the NHL has to send a signal that kind of behavior is unacceptable and that when a player uses his stick in a threatening manner can not be tolerated. However the door is wide open to make an open ice hit even leaving your feet if necessary to intentionally concuss an opposing player.

Makes perfect sense. Thanks.

Colin Campbell is a joke…

Sean Avery gets 6, a 3 month banishment from Dallas, and anger management to boot for making a HARMLESS (albeit stupid) remark.

Donald Brashear, Mike Richards, and Willie Mitchell jeopardize the careers of other players severely, and the most either of them got was Brashear, 6 games.

A god damn joke, I say. Stop worrying about the Averys of the league, and start worrying about the people laying kids out on the ice out there.

Love’em or hate’em I can’t think of a time that Avery endangered the life of someone else on the ice.  He’s just a premier agitator and people hate him for it.

He has a reputation now though… he sneezes and he gets a penalty.  I’m surprised Avery didn’t get suspended for taking the guys stick… with how stupid this league can be.

Seriously a suspension for that? I am sure Sean “The Angel” Avery wasn’t saying anything to provoke the the situation.
