Sharks Coach Has Concerns

from David Pollak of Working the Corners,

At the top of the list of things that concern him during this current stretch is inconsistency, whether it’s the collective inability for the team to put together 60 minutes of solid hockey or the performance of individual players.

“Right now we just don’t have enough players every night,” McLellan said, not referring to quantity. “We get two or three back to where they’re supposed to be and then another two or three drop off.  And you can’t have that.”

There are other differences in the coaching staff’s approach this year.

“We’ve shuffled lines around quicker this year,” McLellan said. “We’ve used some of the players from the minors because we want to, not because we have to.”

McLellan’s response to that writer is funny. When he says they are going to “Stick with the plan”. The McLellan plan

1. Allow Nabokov to play 75 games because he (Nabokov) decides when he does not want to play.
2. Consistantly have optional practices because the “Team is Tired”. Amazingly no other team in the league is this tired. Wow, talk about the excuse making already starting.

side note: If the players are tired, maybe McLellan should see #1

3. Consistently, put out a sub par group of defense man out on the ice, and give them extended playing time.

4. Continue to mess with the top scoring line, by changing line combo’s 6 to 7 times per week, and sometimes as many as 4 times during a game.

Now to the writer, typical hack with lots of softball questions and no follow ups, does this guy even understand the game of hockey?

Now, the real problem with the Sharks team, besides the top 4 above. Is that McLellan was given a sub par group of defense man by Douglas Wilson the teams GM. Trading Christian Erhroff for two scrubs who will never be NHL players has been a disaster, considering the fact that he KNEW at the time he would have no one to replace him. A bunch of minor league scrubs in our farm system, and then having to acquire a player waived twice this year, and that 29 other teams did not want. Jay Leach, and now giving him prime ice time, should tell everyone all you need to know about the Sharks blue line. Let’s be honest here Leach could not play on any of the potential playoff teams blue line, and would have a hard time playing a regular shift on most good minor league teams, yet he gets prime playing time here. Then you have Rob Blake at least 3 years past being a decent player, and finally Kent Huskins, need I say more.

Finally, add in the fact that Wilson, hired his former room mate and best friend Trent Yawney to coach the defense and you have disaster written all over it. Yawney is a bad enough coach with good talent, but give Yawney bad talent and you now see what happens.

Sounds like a bunch of excuses to me too. The Bay Area Television Media are saying that “Undisclosed” people on the Sharks are concerned about the teams goaltending, and fear that Nabby will never be the same again after his Olympic game performance.
