via the San Jose Sharks,
San Jose Sharks Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Wilson announced today that the team has signed defenseman Matt Carle to a four-year contract extension. Per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
“When you look at the number of players that have committed to this organization over the last few years – guys like Patrick Marleau, Joe Thornton, Jonathan Cheechoo, Evgeni Nabokov, Craig Rivet, Milan Michalek – it’s easy to want to be here,” said Carle. “The front office has proven that they are serious about winning multiple Stanley Cups and that’s something I want to be a part of.”

4 years, $13.75M for a kid who has trouble getting out of the press box? I know he has potential, but let’s be serious here - at this point in time he’s a number 6 or 7 (at best) and has regressed this season.
What about Pickles? He’s going to break the bank thanks to this deal!

Got to agree with Mike. This is crazy money for a kid who has talent but is a defensive liability and certainly not one of our top defensemen. Don’t get my wrong, I like Carle, but not at $3.4 million a year. IMO $2.5-$3 million would have been more appropriate until Carle proved he’s the real deal. If he doesn’t live up to this contract, the Sharks are never going to be able to unload him. As a season ticket holder I’m not thrilled that my tickets will be skyrocketing each year because Doug Wilson is overpaying his favorite players like Marleau and now Carle. Thank god Big Joe’s extension is a bargain.
