Sid Wants To Be Like Stevie

from Rob Rossi of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review,

As was the case for Yzerman during his 19 seasons as Red Wings captain, Crosby is focused only on that next hockey game.

That steely focus is one of Crosby’s many attributes Yzerman finds appealing.

“I’ve watched how he conducts himself, and I like the way he plays,” said Yzerman, who retired in 2006 as the sixth-leading scorer in NHL history and a three-time Cup champion. “He’s an extremely talented kid, but he competes hard.

“I’ve been very impressed watching from afar.”

I can’t seem to really remember Yzerman bitching in the media about officiating. Maybe Cindy should take note of that aspect of Yzerman’s captaincy

This is a reporter’s overblown telling of what should be two great and humble players thinking highly of each other.

Crosby will not be the next Yzerman or Gretzky of anything else. He’ll be great and, hopefully, himself.

Any non-Detroit fans reading this: You will no doubt understand our defensive reactions to anything said about The Captain, especially in comparison to kids who have a long way to go before approaching that superhero status. Zetterberg, when Nick Lidstrom(!) said he is the next Yzerman, replied that he has to circle the planet a few times before something like that can be mentioned.

/this is also the reason, aside from Stevie’s shyness, we’re annoyed with all “Messier is the greatest captain/ leader of all time.” please just STFU
