A jersey worn by Pittsburgh Penguins center Sidney Crosby has earned $12,131 in a league-wide auction to benefit the Garth Brooks Teammates For Kids Foundation, making his jersey the top earner thus far. Other notable final bids include jerseys from Crosby’s Pittsburgh teammate Evgeni Malkin, which raised $7,520, and Alex Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals ($6,020.01).
The National Hockey League (NHL) and National Hockey League Players’ Association (NHLPA) on-line auction consists of six overlapping two-week auctions that will run throughout February. Bidding for the Carolina Hurricanes, New Jersey Devils, New York Rangers, St. Louis Blues and Washington Capitals jerseys closed on Jan. 24 and earned $80,676.58 for the Garth Brooks Teammates For Kids Foundation. Colorado Avalanche, Edmonton Oilers, Nashville Predators, Ottawa Senators and Pittsburgh Penguins jerseys closed on Jan. 31 and earned $89,463.58.
