Simon Broke The Code

from the CP via the Toronto Star,

Cherry said on CBC’s Hockey Night in Canada that he “understands” why Simon stomped on Pittsburgh Penguin Jarkko Ruutu’s leg during a game last weekend. The incident led to Simon’s 30-game suspension last Wednesday, the longest in NHL history for an on-ice incident.

“He broke the code, you never do anything like that, but you can understand it somehow,” said Cherry.

holy smokes, this is one of the most juvenile displays I’ve ever seen out of Don. If things don’t go accordingly he has a temper tantrum - someone change his diaper. Ironically, his clown suits fit his demeanor while we’re all laughing at his ultra-nationalist insanity from home.

Just like the Ruutu’s need a sock in the chops, so does Cherry for running his bossy mouth. The guy is riding too high on his horse and no one has the balls to knock him off in the hockey world.

There’s no code anymore, Grapes.  If there were, Collie Campbell would have suspended Simon for life when he whacked Hollweg, but Collie doesn’t subscribe to the belief that there’s a “code” that can be broken.  That’s why the Flyers’ organization got off the hook five times, that’s why guys like Ruutu can run around and not get suspended for what they do.

It’s time for a new code.
