Situation Room Review Of The LaRose Shot

Video Review: Carolina at Boston, 19:58 of 2nd period

Hockey Operations reviewed the shot by Carolina’s Larose to see if the puck was entirely across the goal line.  The referee’s call on the ice was no goal - therefore video review needed to determine conclusively that the puck was over the line.  Video review determined that it was inconclusive as to whether the puck crossed the goal line in its entirety - no goal.

Opinions of those watching the game?  I’m obviously a bit biased, but even as objective as I could be, I thought that was a goal… The goal line camera, to me, showed a little bit of white space.  But, like I said, that could be a result of my bias.

I thought the overhead camera showed about an inch of white space between the puck and the goal line. I say it was a goal.

We should be happy this call didn’t affect the outcome of the game.

I agree with you guys, from the above the net view it looked like you could see some white, but whatever, Canes won anyway.

Clearly a goal from my perspective. I don’t know how they can’t see the white space on the overhead. That, taken with the fact that the overhead camera being slightly behind the goal line makes it a conservative angle, seems conclusive to me.

It looked like it was in, but it needed to be conclusive, and I can’t say that there was conclusive evidence from any of those angles. It was probably a goal, but I can’t get too down on the war room for their decision. It definitely does re-open the argument on whether the league needs to find a better way to determine if a puck crosses the line.

There sure looked to be some white space between the puck and the line, and I didn’t even have the benefit of an HD feed…
