from Greg Logan of Newsday,
Former Los Angeles Kings coach Marc Crawford and current Islanders assistant Gerard Gallant are among the final candidates expected to be interviewed over the next three days, according to an NHL source….
Except for Quenneville, all the other candidates have shown their interest in the Islanders’ job. Snow has made it clear that he’s seeking a long-term partner willing to focus on developing a contender by playing the young prospects and building through the draft.

Maybe Snow will prove me wrong, but it seems to me that recent history suggests anyone chosen as a “long-term partner” may not necessarily be there long-term.

Snow has not shown that he can add anything to atract higher caliber players to the Islanders. Nolan wanted a bit more veteran presense along with fostering youth through draft Snow wanted Nolan to play the youth players a bit more than he did last year. Snow would have been wise to compromise with Nolan in order to keep him rather than fire him. Snow is likely looking at the the Red Wings model of building throught the draft and developing players in to guys like Zeterberg. What the Red Wings had was great coaching that got the most out of players and got them to work their talents and styles together.
Ted Nolan is well known for getting the most out of his players. He did that on Long Island. He would have helped greatly with this model.
Ted Nolan was a perfect fit for Snow and the Isles and will be dificult to replace.
