Some People Watched, Some Did Not

Versus promised people in the Detroit and Anaheim markets that they would be switching to the Wings/Ducks game as soon as the puck dropped since their early game, Chicago/Vancouver was going into OT.
I guess they did switch, but only on their SD channel. People who were watching the HD channel on Versus, in this case, channel 603 via Directv, did not get the switch.
Versus needs to let people know exactly what they are doing, spell it out beforehand instead of forcing people to start searching for the game they promised to show.

Watching the Stanley Cup playoffs on Versus is like watching a community theater production of “Les Miserables.” The source material’s emotional potency and the magnetic qualities of its aesthetics make it, at a minimum, eminently enjoyable.

Yeah this sucks. Perhaps it’s because I have Comcast and Vs. is owned by Comcast, but for me, the HD station switched over right on time (though the picture was 4:3). First commercial after the Nucks/Hawks game ended, it switched to a true HD picture. So, not awful. Not sure why this couldn’t happen on other carriers… I’ll bag on Vs. as much as the next guy, but perhaps some complaints should be thrown the direction of DirecTV or other carriers? Not sure who controls this.

Versus switched over to the Wings/Ducks game in HD on Dishnetwork. Maybe its a DirectTV problem.

DirecTV put up and Versus Alternate channel on 604 to handle the game. However, there was only an SD feed provided. Once the Chicago/Vancouver game ended, the standard Versus channel 603 (SD & HD) showed the Wings.

Jeff, that is exactly the way it went for me too. If they are going to do that, fine, but let us know we need to change channels to watch it.

I didnt even see the first 10 minutes of the game last night, we have charter and live an hour outside detroit and we had to watch chicago and vancouver in OT before we could see the game. If that game would have went to like 3 overtimes, i think they would have had to deal with the wrath of a bunch of angry wings fans.l I also sent a very angry email to versus

I was listening to the internet radio feed (about 8 secs ahead of the Vs. TV feed.) When the Blackhawks scored, the Wings were in their media timeout, so they were somewhat justified in staying with a replay or two from the United Center. I recall that they actually did make it to the next faceoff.

Did Wysh really reference a friggin’ musical in a hockey article? Jesus…

I’m with Paige. Charter here in MI did not switch. So I just went to bed, not knowing if and when I’d ever get to see the game I’d stayed u[p to actually watch.
Thanks a lot, Versus and NHL.

No they didn’t. I was watching the HD feed and they went to the game for a few minutes, but came back to Chi/Van when it came back on. Dish Network had no alternate feed either.
I did not check the SD versus though. When I went to do so, the other game had just finished, so I kept it there.

I watched and I didn’t care that Versus got to the Red Wings - Ducks game late. What the heck else is that network supposed to do? Besides, no other network has ponied up the money to broadcast NHL games. So what else are fans supposed to do? Oh yeah complain on message boards and blogs instead of taking the heat where it needs to go - the NHL, Versus and local cable companies.

What we got here in Las Vegas for Game Three was the Fox Sport Prime Ducks network picking up the telecast.
I don’t know why they didn’t allow FSP-D to be picked up on any other satnet so the Wings fans with the applicable subscriptions can get the coverage (I know it’s the Schmucks team but it’s better than nothing) while Versus can continue to televise the Van/Chi OT match while the Wings fans can switch over to FSP-D.
Or does that make too much sense?

Here in the NW Versus switched after the Chicago game, which was what they said. They do a good job covering the games, provide more access than any previous broadcast. They gave us HD before many other stations switched. I am happy with Versus, much better than ESPN who put hockey behind poker and women’s basketball.
