from Marc Crawford of Blogs and Columns at CBC,
I have watched many a game this year involving the Los Angeles Kings and one of the players who has stood out for me is their emerging superstar defenceman in Drew Doughty.
While he is a gifted puck handler and an extremely quick skater, what I enjoy most about watching his games is the interaction he has with his partner on defence, veteran Sean O’Donnell.
With his 15-plus years of experience, O’Donnell is the perfect foil for Doughty.
continued and Crawfors uses Yzerman as an example too…

Kukla’s Korner is always a free service for readers, but it costs some money to maintain. If you’re ever in a position to donate a few dollars to help out, we’d be very appreciative.

I would never want to downplay the influence and/or overall greatness of Steve Yzerman. In fact, I’d like to add that his influence continues to this day with not only younger players, but also veterans such as Nick Lidstrom and Kris Draper, who frequently discuss their efforts to emulate Yzerman’s ability to lead by example.
I would be remiss, however, if I didn’t “scold” Marc Crawford for his failure to mention the important mentoring provided by Igor Larionov (especially RE: Datsyuk), Chris Chelios, Draper and many others in the Red Wings organ-I-zation. In fact, the most important “gift” Scotty Bowman gave this team was probably not three Stanley Cups (as coach), but the rekindled knowledge of the absolutely essential need for strong mentors—and students—to build ongoing success.
