via Sportsnet,
All-star defenceman Sheldon Souray has been given a vote of confidence by Canadiens management, Sportsnet has learned.
The team has no intention of shopping the soon-to-be unrestricted free agent going into the NHL trade deadline on Feb 27.
With the impression Souray will now finish the year with the Canadiens, sources are telling Sportsnet the club will make every conceivable effort to ink Souray to a long-term deal.

Didn’t see it but apparently Souray denied on RDS that Habs management had contacted him to tell him he wouldn’t be traded.

I don’t understand this at all. He will not resign with this team and although he’s great on the PP, he keeps making critical mistakes on D. He’s already made 3-4 of them tonight. Unless Gainey is getting no interest from other GMs…MTL won’t win with him so they might as well shake things up.
