Souray Still Part Of The Oilers Organization

from Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal,

“Yeah, I’m surprised nobody took Sheldon . . . it’s a bit shocking to me, really,” said the Oilers coach. “If you’re asking me, I’d have taken him, but that’s just Tom Renney running off his mouth. He’s a good player. He’s got way too much to offer a team down the stretch. It’s unusual that he wasn’t taken. He could help a team.”...

Oilers captain Shawn Horcoff was also taken aback when Souray went unclaimed, knowing how teams like to load up on defencemen at this time of year.

“It’s unfortunate. . . . I’ve known Shelley for a long time. He was a great teammate and he’s a good person,” said Horcoff. “I think he’s handled this (exile to the AHL) extremely well from what I’ve heard. I was hoping he’d get picked up and he’d be able to move on.

“I’m sure it’s not the end for him. It’s just another setback. Hopefully there will be something on the horizon someplace else,” said Horcoff.
